SERVICE: Festival Identity, Poster Design, Typography

The visual identity for the Festival of Many Cultures is a typographic experiment rooted in the avant-garde legacy of Łódź. The design serves as a contemporary tribute to Władysław Strzemiński, the city’s most influential artist.
The core of the project is a deep dive into Strzemiński’s Theory of Vision and his focus on the Afterimage—the momentary optical phenomenon caused by gazing into light that causes one to see double or triple images with blurred halos. The composition utilizes a mix of linear typography and organic, ‘afterimage’ letterforms that shift and overlap. This fluid approach to lettering—where multiple ways of writing and seeing intersect—serves as a direct visual metaphor for the permeation of diverse cultures, reflecting how different traditions and identities bleed into one another to create a new, shared landscape.
By anchoring the branding in Strzemiński’s theoretical framework, the festival gained immediate cultural authority and a distinct “Łódź” character. The experimental typography didn’t just announce the event—it became a conversation piece, repositioning a multi-cultural festival as a sophisticated, art-led experience that honours the city’s avant-garde heritage while remaining visually accessible to a modern audience.
